Marion Frances (Miller) Peine passed away peacefully in Hastings, Oct.31, 2008, the day after her 89th birthday, surrounded by her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nick; daughter, AnneBrochman; and two grandchildren.

She is survived by children, Carol Raleigh (Lynn Gallup), Mark Peine,Linda (Phill) Gill, Margaret (Lee) Stocking, Paul (Miki) Peine, andMaureen Peine; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She isalso survived by brother, Ray Miller; and sisters, Dorothy Loesch,Bernice Sherry, Emiline Hamilton, Jeanne McGree, Ruth Bremer, andAudrey Connolly.

Marion started her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse in HayCreek, Minn. She taught third and fourth grades at St. Boniface inHastings, St. John’s in Vermillion, and St. Mary’s in New Trier. Shehad a lasting influence on hundreds of students and was always pleasedwhen someone said, “Remember me, Mrs. Peine?” Now the secret can betold: She told each student they were one of her favorites.

Marion was a study in contrasts, equally at home driving a farm truckand shopping at Dayton’s Oval Room. She was a great cat lover, and sheloved to garden, to play cards and to dance with her many friends fromHastings, Miesville, and the surrounding community.

A Mass of Christian burial, with Father Abraham George officiating,was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 3, at St. Elizabeth Ann SetonCatholic Church, 2035 W. 15th St., Hastings.

Visitation was from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, at Wise FamilyFuneral Home, 400 Spring St., Hastings and one hour prior to Mass atchurch.

Pallbearers were Nick Brochman, Mike Banks, Mike Peine, Bill Peine,Mark Dempsey and Jack Raleigh.

Interment was in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Cemetery.
